BALI TRAVEL TIPS

Visitors to Indonesia are allowed to bring in tax-free a maximum of one litre of alcoholic beverages and 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 100 grams of tobacco. Passengers departing on international and flights will have to pay the airport tax. For International flights, the tax amounts to Rp 100,00 while that for domestic flights is Rp 20,000.

To...

  • Reconfirm your outbound flight.
  • Drink a lot of bottled water, avoid tap water.
  • Leave important travel documents in your hotel safe.
  • Try and avoid stepping on offerings in the street.
  • Shop around when trying to change money as the rates can vary.
  • Avoid honking if caught behind the slow pace of processions, show your respect.
  • Be careful with your belongings at all times. Crime is on the increase and can ruin your holiday. Cases of handbag snatching have been reported.

  • Forget to take your passport (or a photocopy of your ID), with you at all times.
  • Attempt to swim outside designated areas on the beach.
  • Deal in or do drugs. The death penalty could await you!
  • Touch people's head. It is considered offensive.
  • Enter a temple during menstruation.
  • Forget to look and listen while you cross the road.
