Probably the island's most famous tourist area, no visit to Bali
is complete without a visit to Kuta, if only to witness its magnificent,
"fire-ball" sunset. Whatever you want, you'll find it
here; a place constantly alive with action and excitement. This
belt is by far the most popular and whitest beach in Bali, attracting
all ages and nationalities. The beach extends from Canggu to the
airport in Tuban. It is ideal for those wishing to combine a beach
holiday with testing their surfing skills. Kuta beach continues
to grow in popularity and is a fantastic place to soak up the
warm sun.
Surfing Tour
The Kuta to Legian strecth of beach is the most obvious place
to start a surfing tour. Being the historical home of surfing
in Bali, it is still one the most popular surfing destinations
for both beginners and experienced surfers. These waves can be
very large at times and there is often a strong undercurrent here,
so although the conditions may appear to be fine, caution should
be exercised at all times. You can go to surfing school here,
hire boards or just sit back and enjoy watching the great number
of surfers and foreigners who flock to this particular location.
At the southern end is the airport's break, where you sit and
watch the planes take off between sets.
During the day and night, the streets are a hub of activity with
tourists from all countries, street vendors, car and motorcycles,
weaving their way through streets and lanes with shops and restaurants
of every description. The plethora of vendors and shops may appear
a little overwhelming at first, but once you get used to the ritual
of bargaining you'll realise that this is a real shopper's paradise.
Discos, pubs, and karaoke bars provide a wild nightlife which
continues until the small hours of the morning. Kuta is about
a 5 minute drive from the airport and about 10km from Denpasar.
